General Vendor Guidelines

TRANSLATION – PROOFREADING – FULL POST-EDITING – LIGHT POST-EDITING.

1. TRANSLATION

Requirements for translation works:
  1. Commitment not to use machine translation engines.
  2. Observance of client and/or project manager instructions, if any.
  3. No mistranslations, inaccuracies and omissions vs. the source text.
  4. Correct spelling, figures, names, typography, syntax and grammar.
  5. Appropriate and consistent terminology:

    – ensure that key terms, titles or roles/positions are always translated in the same way in all documents pertaining to a project (unless otherwise required by the context).

    if a TM is provided, check whether the term has already been translated so that it can be reused (if you have doubts about the existing translation for a key term, please advise the project manager).
  6. Appropriate style:


    make sure the style suits the context and purpose. Feel free to reword and/or articulate sentences according to the nature of the documents and their purpose.
    For example, a marketing copy, a newsletter or a published article will probably need to be reworked more in detail.

  7. Formatting (tags in Trados Studio, bold, italics …).
  8. Questions and/or comments:

    – If you have questions, please forward the the Project Managers as soon as possible before delivery.
    – If you have inserted comments inside the Studio files, please inform the Project Manager upon delivery.

2. PROOFREADING

At EuropaTrad, the overarching term “proofreading” encompasses the concepts of revision, editing and proofreading.

Proofreading means checking the quality of a translation in every aspect (in substance and in form) based on several criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Observance of client and/or project manager instructions, if any.
  2. No mistranslations, inaccuracies and omissions vs. the source text.
  3. Correct spelling,figures, names, typography, syntax and grammar.
  4. Appropriate and consistent terminology:


    ensure that key terms, titles or roles/positions are always translated in the same way in all documents pertaining to a project (unless otherwise required by the context).

    if a TM is provided, check whether the term has already been translated so that it can be reused (if you have doubts about the existing translation for a key term, please advise the project manager).
  5. Appropriate style:


    make sure the style suits the context and purpose. Feel free to reword and/or articulate sentences according to the nature of the documents and their purpose.

With a view to continuous improvement, upon delivery of theproofed texts, please rate the quality of the original translationby filling in the rating grid below.

3. FULL POST-EDITING

Full post-editing means making all the necessary changes and modifications to the
MT engineraw outputprovided
to make the finalised target text correct and appropriate in terms of meaning, terminology (including consistency) and style.

Requirements for full post-editing works:

  1. Observance of client and/or project manager instructions, if any.
  2. No mistranslations, inaccuracies and omissions vs. the source text.
  3. Correct spelling, figures, names, typography, syntax and grammar.
  4. Correctand consistent terminology:
    – ensure that key terms, titles or roles/positions are always translated in the same way in all documents pertaining to a project (unless otherwise required by the context).

4. LIGHT POST-EDITING

Light post-editing means making making only the relevant and absolutely necessary corrections and changes on MT engineraw output provided. in order to
makethe finalised target textunderstandable and fit for purpose.

Requirements for light post-editing works:

  1. Observance of client and/or project manager instructions, if any.
  2. No mistranslations nor omissions vs. the source text.
  3. Correct spelling, grammar, figures and names.
  4. Acceptable and consistent terminology:

    – ensure that key terms, titles or roles/positions are always translated in the same way in all documents pertaining to a project (unless otherwise required by the context).

    if a TM is provided, check whether the term has already been translated so that it can be reused (if you have doubts about the existing translation for a key term, please advise the project manager).
